Krakow 1865-1940 Paris,Polish painter. She took drawing lessons at home from the age of nine and began regular studies in 1883 under the portrait painter Kazimierz Pochwalski (1855-1940). She continued her training in 1884-5 at the Adam Baraniecki School of Art, the only school in Krakew accessible to women at that time. She went to Munich for further study, working in the studio of Carl Kricheldorf (b 1863) in 1886-7, and in that of Wilhelm Derr (1857-1900) in 1888. In 1889 she participated in the Internationale Kunstausstellung in Munich and opened her own studio, which over the next decade became a meeting-place for students. In 1895 she ran a private school of painting founded by Professor Theodor Humml (1864-1939). CAMPEN, Jacob vanDutch Baroque Era Painter, 1595-1657
Chief exponent of Classicism in The Netherlands. He studied architecture in Italy and was influenced by the work of Scamozzi and Palladio. With his Coymans House on the Keizersgracht, Amsterdam (1624), he introduced the Palladian style to The Netherlands. His most refined work is the Mauritshuis in The Hague (1633?C5), which has a Palladian plan, elevations featuring a Giant Order of Ionic pilasters set on a plain base, a pedimented central section given little emphasis, and a hipped roof. Much grander is the Town Hall (now Royal Palace), Amsterdam (1648?C55): it has two internal courtyards separated by a huge central hall, façades with two superimposed Giant Orders of pilasters, and a large projecting pedimented central section over which is a domed lantern. His Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), Haarlem (1645?C9), is based on the quincunx plan (essentially a Greek cross within a square), with square Ionic crossing-piers and a groin-vault over the crossing. He was responsible for the Accijnshuis, Amsterdam (1638), the Noordeinde Palace, The Hague (1640), and, with others, the decorations of Post's Huis-den-Bosch, Maarssen, near Utrecht (c.1628).
Juan Antonio Ribera Y Fernandez1779-1860
was a Spanish painter, born at Madrid. He first studied under Francisco Bayeu and enrolled into the Royal Academy of San Fernando, but afterwards went to Paris and become the pupil of Jacques-Louis David. There he painted his Cincinnatus which is now in the Prado Museum. In course of time he went to Rome, and in 1811 was appointed painter to Carlos IV and member of the Academy of St. Luke; and in 1820, honorary member of the Academy of San Fernando. In 1838 he was made professor, and two years afterwards Director of the Prado. He died at Madrid.
siri derkertSiri Derkert föddes i Stockholm 1888 som ett av sju barn till köpmannen Carl Edward Johansson Derkert, från 1904 endast Derkert, och Emma Charlotta Valborg, född Fogelin 1860. Hon utbildades vid Althins målarskola i Stockholm från 1904 och på Konstakademien 1911-1913. Därefter studerade hon konst i Paris på Academie Colarossi och Academie de la Grande Chaumiere tillsammans med Ninnan Santesson och Lisa Bergstrand (Elisabeth Bergstrand-Paulsson) fram till första världskrigets utbrott hösten 1914. Under och efter första världskriget vistades hon periodvis i Italien, där hennes första barn Carlo föddes. Siri Derkert studerade också vid den kvinnliga medborgarskolan som drevs av fogelstadgruppen. Till Fogelstad kom hon i september 1943 och denna vistelse inspirerade hennes konstnärskap. Hon gjorde bland annat flera skisser av de kvinnor som var verksamma på Fogelstad, däribland Honorine Hermelin och Ada Nilsson.
Siri Derkert hade tre barn: sonen Carlo (1915-1994) med den finländske konstnären Valle Rosenberg (1891-1919) samt döttrarna Liv (1917-1938) och Sara (född 1920) med tecknaren och bokillustratören Bertil Lybeck (1887-1945). Med Lybeck var Siri Derkert gift mellan 1921 och 1925, men parterna levde inte tillsammans.
